چکیده

Abstract—The design, simulation and fabrication of a left-handed metamaterial (LHM) structure is presented. The combination of the modified square rectangular Split Ring Resonator (SRR) and the Capacitance Loaded Strip (CLS) were used to obtain the negative value of permeability, μ and the negative permittivity, ε. NicolsonRoss-Wier approach was used to identify the double negative region. A good agreement between simulated and measured results has been achieved. Upon incorporation with a single patch microstrip antenna, the performance of the antenna was improved where the gain of the microstrip antenna was increased up to 4 dB, and its bandwidth widens from 2.9% to 4.98%. These improvements are due to the negative refraction characteristics of the LHM structure that acts as a lens when placed in front of the antenna.

Microstrip Antenna Gain Enhancement using Near Zero Refractive Index Metamaterials

Some useful features of microstrip patch antennas are low profile, low weight and easy fabrication. However this type of antenna suffers from having a low gain, caused by propagation surface waves. In this paper, a new near zero refractive index metamaterial (MTM) unit cell is designed and fabricated as a superstrate over a Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antennas (RMPA). In order to obtain a maxi...

A NOVEL MICROSTRIP ANTENNA ARRAY WITH METAMATERIAL-BASED ELECTRONIC BEAM STEER- ING AT 2.4 GHz

A metamaterial based electronically controlled microstrip structure, performing as leaky wave (LW) antenna with beam steering capability was synthesized. The structure has the configuration of metamaterial transmission line (TL) composed of cascade composite right-/left-handed (CRLH) unit cells. The direction of maximum radiation is tuned via the variation of varactros’ capacities incorporated ...

Miniaturized ultra-wideband antenna using microstrip negative index metamaterial

A three left-handed metamaterial unit cell antenna is presented in this article for ultrawideband applications. Each left-handed metamaterial unit cell is a combination of a modified octagonal split-ring resonator, an octagonal spiral resonator, a capacitance-loaded strip, and a wire in order to achieve a design that simultaneously exhibits both negative electrical permittivity and negative mag...

A High Gain Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna Using “Different C Patterns” Metamaterial Design in L-Band

Design of rectangular microstrip patch antenna loaded with “different C patterns” left-handed metamaterial structure has been proposed. The proposed metamaterial structure is designed at a height of 3.2 mm from the ground plane for L-band (1 GHz-2 GHz) applications. The most interesting feature of the design is the ability of enhancing the gain and total efficiency of the antenna without effect...

A Broadband and High-Gain Metamaterial Microstrip Antenna

A braod bandwidth and high gain rectangular patch antenna was specifically designed in this paper using planar-patterned metamaterial concepts. Based on an ordinary patch antenna, the antenna has isolated triangle gaps and crossed strip-line gaps etched on the metal patch and ground plane, respectively. Demonstrated to have left-handed characteristics, the patterned metal patch and finite groun...
